Currently Gina was humming the theme to MST3K in discord on Brittany's back as she climbed. The opening sequence of the first episode starts off with a fight between two winged bishonen. You don't need to doubt: this is a shoujo anime alright. I was a bit ambivalent about this new title. The manga has a really strong, almost cult-like following, and though the storyline didn't impress me that much, I was curious about how the anime was going to treat it. After a long time waiting, I finally saw the Cowboy Bebop movie today. First off, the theater was about half full. Looks like lots of other anime nerds. I spotted shirts with Gunsmith Cats and Ah! My Goddess emblazened on them (I was wearing my Noir shirt). It was actually kind of funny because the Angelika Film Center in Dallas is a theater for mostly pretentious arthouse films, and to see a bunch of anime nerds crashing their party was pretty funny.

In an effort to cut down on expenses, I decided it was necessary to stop buying at least one series on DVD for the time being. In the end, it came down to either RahXephon or Ai Yori Aoshi. RahXephon, being the far better series, was poised to win the battle, but as I stood in the anime aisle at Best Buy this weekend, holding RahXephon Vol. 3 in one hand and Ai Yori Aoshi Vol. 3 in the other, I realized something: RahXephon is a 7 disc release, with an inconsistent episode count to boot. Ai Yori Aoshi, on the other hand, is a 5 disc release, with a set episode count of 5 per disc.
